Ode to the wind
You have blown for so many thousand years,
Invisible, weightless, but ever so powerful,
Blowing sails into harbour and sending some adrift,
Ever at your mercy and the vastness of your power.
Gentle, soft, in your summer breeze, like our lover’s kiss,
And wild, untamed, in an ocean’s strength.
Is it your mood? Is it your thoughts we see?
Or is it just your power?
I feel your encouragement sometimes when you blow on my back,
I feel you whispering to open my wings, to let everybody see them,
See me soar, high up in the sky, where you will carry me.
You will carry me to wherever I desire to go,
or wherever you know I need to go,
And I trust you blindly to take me there.
I trust you to hold me up,
to make me weightless with you,
For you have always held me,
always, every second of my breathing life.
You have always surrounded me,
and us, everyone,
That Invisible Force that has seen it all,
All our joys and pains, all of our wins and disappointments.
You have held us throughout,
and also let us move freely,
Always there, always present,
so I know you know me.
You know me probably better than I know myself.
So when you speak to me, in quiet breezes, in fierce gusts,
When you push me forward,
or when you oppose me,
I listen, because I trust you.
I know you’ve heard, and I know you’ve seen,
And I know you’re there for me,
like always,
to breathe.
